Xournal is a fun sketching application that simulates having pads of paper, pencils, colored pens, highlighters, and rulers. This means you can write and draw just like you would do in real life, except you're doing it on virtual bits of paper.

It's a bit like having a stationery shop in your pocket - you can write, draw and highlight in lots of different colors, on plain, colored, or patterned paper, without having to carry a bag full of materials with you.

When it's time to stop you can then save your work to go back to, or even turn it into an annotatable PDF file.
